Norman Joseph was born in North Vancouver and was a member of the Squamish Nation specifically the Burrard Indian Band. He became chief in 1967. He continued his family tradition of carving and teaching art to his siblings.His totems are truly special and depict traditional that characters tell a story. Joseph's nephew Paul is considered one of the finest master carvers today. This totem is something special and a fine example of a master's carving.
