Amongst the Kwagiulth also known as the Kwakwakaʼwakw, the sun is often used as a family or clan crest. A powerful image, perfect for center stage on a wall. The Kwakwakaʼwakw are indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Most live in their traditional territory on northern Vancouver Island or adjacent islands. Kwakwakaʼwakw oral history says their ancestors came in the form of animals by way of land, sea, or underground. When one of these ancestral animals arrived at a given spot, it discarded its animal appearance and became human. Dimensions 26”x26”
