Mark Henderson is a native West Coast artist from Campbell River. He is part of the Wai-Wai-Kum band of the Kwakuitl Nation. His father Sam began carving in 1950 and Henderson's brothers also were into carving. But despite coming from a family of carvers, Hendersons interest was in painting. He began painting at age 11. Henderson’s style relates to the old art of the Kwakuitl people. Henderson is known for his whimsical and sophisticated clour silk screen prints.
